Early in my career as a designer, creating visuals for local bands was my passion. Being a musician myself, it was a perfect fit. I really loved the idea of trying to create a graphical representation of a band’s musical attitude. I have always thoroughly enjoyed bringing together my passion for music and the visual arts. Show posters have provided me with an outlet to combine abstract imagery and communication in a unique way. I am still amazed at how so many visual artist create incredibly interesting works that display so much personality and quirkiness. Press Release: In designing the 2007 Kentucky Derby Festival Poster, Donovan Sears joins an elite group of artists. The Festival Poster Series has been a tremendous launching pad for local artists since it’s change of focus to showcase regional talent in the past ten years. Though primarily an honor for homegrown talent, some internationally renowned artists have designed the poster, including Peter Max, Julius Friedman and Michael Schwab.

Donovan has eight years of experience in graphic arts and is employed in Louisville, KY by CurrentMarketing. He graduated from the University of Louisville with a BA in Art. His work has appeared in national publications such as Layers Magazine. Donovan is also an active musician in the city, having played hundreds of shows in and around the tri-state area.
